If you narrow the problem to a piece of equipment, swap that piece of equipment with a known good equivalent from one of your other systems. If the problem moves when you swap one end of a cable but not the other, replace the cable. Repeat until you narrow down the problem to a specific piece of equipment or cable. If it does not change, the problem is closer to the speakers. Move towards the beginning and try again. If the problem moves from one side to the other, the problem is before that point. Swap the channels one end of a pair of cables. You started out well by swapping the left and right channel cables. This problem can be narrowed down by just swapping cables. All looks ok.Īny other ideas on what it could be, or is it quite normal? There was an alignment protractor somewhere but I cant find it so I used a printable one. The cartridge looks like its placed fine. I could order a weight but will this change anything if the tone arm rests on the little rest anyway? (im new to this so forgive the lack of knowledge) There is the option to fit anti skate, nothing for this came in the package. It seems that this is factory balanced, nothing is changeable, in fact when the arm is placed on the record there is a little rest so it cant go any lower. So im cutting it down to something with the turntable or maybe amp.This is a Pro-ject Debut II, researching it a little I've seen people mention balancing the tone arm. The issue can also be heard using headphones. (original was under floorboards into a 'stylish veneer' wall plate, using I've been told from a visiter, old BT phone cable!) I swapped the R/L leads going from the Pro-ject into the amp. The speakers are old from and old Sony music centre (70's or 80's), but its not this, I swapped the speakers over and the issue stayed on the same side. later today I will test with a more modern one. I was originally using old records, but newer ones sound similar, a little better. Maybe this is normal, I cant really notice it that well when I have the balance in the middle, but it is still there.

On the amp I balanced everything to the left and its very clear, then balance everything to the right and its soft, tinny, maybe even echoyish. I am noticing that the right channel sounds kind of softer maybe tinny. This over the years has never had much use but the new location will help with this. I have recently moved my parents Pro-ject Debut II and Marantz amp to the other side of the room.
